Fear, uncertainty, and intimidation can present some major roadblocks in our BFRB management. But we don't have to let them stop us completely. For this newsletter, let's look at some common BFRB fears.
If I don't have my BFRB, how else will I feel as good as when I pull/pick/bite?
Hair pulling, skin picking, and nail-biting are self-soothing behaviors. They're our brains "default tool" to help ourselves even out our unbalanced nervous system. So of course, it can be scary to think how we'd function without that tool. But here's a tip: nothing feels as good as your BFRB except not doing your BFRB. Taking the time to redirect, take care of your mental health, and see improvement is so much more satisfying!
I'm nervous to talk about my BFRBs with others because of the shame I feel.
Know that you aren't the only one. The whole BFRB management community is working through shame. Know that if you join the BFRB Change Collective, a Parent Huddle, a 15-minute technical training call, or a meeting with a HabitAware Peer Coach, you will be in a judgement-free space that is all about being open and learning.
I'm scared to fail, and go back to where I started.
You will never go back to where you started, literally. You can't time travel! A misstep or intense BFRB episode may feel like you've lost all progress, but you haven't. With every little thing you try for BFRB management, you gain new wisdom and experience. You might lose your way, but it becomes easier and easier to find your way back on the path. And it becomes so much easier with a team of cheerleaders encouraging you!
I'm afraid to spend the money on Keen2.
We get that, that's why Keen2 has a 90-day return policy, so that you have more than enough time to set it up, try it out, and see if Keen2 seems like a tool that can help you. Keen2 is an investment into you and your mental health. Experts say it takes 66 days to form new habits. You get 90.
