Trichotillomania Research Opportunity: UK + US-based Student-Led Research

GUEST POST

HELLO BFRB Community!

Team HabitAware is always looking for ways to support the community. In the past we've helped a number of student researchers recruit participants for their independent and review-board approved Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior research related studies.

This opportunity is no different. Please have a look and see if you are eligible. The guest post below is from the University of Glasgow:

"Do you have trichotillomania?
Are you interested in helping us evaluate a digital health course for working with your pulling, potentially reducing it?
Are you interested in making $175 for participating in our University of Glasgow study?

We’re a group of researchers at the University of Glasgow, who have developed a new digital health course called SITUATE for helping people work with their hair pulling.  We’re looking for pullers who would work through the course, evaluate it for us, and provide recommendations for improving it.

The course typically takes around 12 hours, with individuals spending approximately 4 hours per week over of 3 weeks.  If you wanted to work through the course more quickly, that’s fine, as long as you work through it carefully.  The longest you could take to complete the course is 4 weeks.

The course contains 6 modules that you perform online.  After you complete each module, we will ask you to fill out a brief 5-10 minute survey, also online. There will also be a final 5-10 minute survey after completing the course.  We estimate that the 7 surveys will take a total of about 1 hour to complete all of them.  Everything will take place completely online, including both the modules and the surveys.

If you complete all 6 modules of the course and fill out the 7 brief surveys, we will pay you $175 in Amazon gift certificates for helping us evaluate and improve SITUATE.  You must complete all 6 modules and all 7 surveys to be paid.
Unfortunately, we cannot pay for partial completion.

To participate, you must meet the following criteria:
  • You must currently be an active hair puller
  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must live in the USA
  • You must be a fluent speaker of English
  • You cannot currently be experiencing significant psychological distress or trauma
If you meet these qualifications and would like to participate in this study, please send an email message to Courtney Taylor Browne Luka at:
courtney.taylorbrowneluka@glasgow.ac.uk

Please enter the following into the subject field for the message:

In your message, please be sure to include the following:
  • Your first and last names
