About HabitAware

Based in Minneapolis, HabitAware is an award-winning mental health startup. HabitAware created a smart bracelet, Keen, to bring awareness to co-founder Aneela Idnani's trance-like compulsive hair pulling behavior. Hair pulling disorder, and its sister conditions of compulsive skin picking (dermatillomania) and excessive nail biting (onychophagia) are soothing mechanisms for stress and anxiety. The power of “Keen” awareness gives the 20 million Americans with these Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) the opportunity to “Retrain the Brain” by choosing healthier soothing strategies.

HabitAware holds Phase 1 research grant awards from both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) for its ground-breaking work in mental health technology. Locally, the company was the winner of the 2018 MN Cup Startup Competition, the 2019 MEDA $1 Challenge and the 2018 Tekne for Best Startup. The company has been featured in The Washington Post, Prevention, SELF Magazine and is a 2018 TIME Magazine Best Invention.
